Rainy Weather Reading & Writing

The recent rainy weather led to a lot of reading in my house. I found a treasure in Meghan Daum's "Life Would Be Perfect If I Lived In That House". It's a funny and poignant look at her obsession with home ownership.

Collections are the icing on the cake of decorating –
if you take it easy. To create impactful displays, try this:

• Repeat shapes or stick to a single color. Example: a collection of football helmets or pottery in one color.
• Pick something to collect and then put energy into that. Having a small number of lots of items creates visual chaos.
• Only keep items that are useful or meaningful.

Look at what we can do by using what you own!

Before

This is a nice room, but didn't function as well as it could. The couple wanted more seating and an improved sightline to the TV (it was on the opposite wall). They have guests over to watch sporting events. It was important to give them a comfortable room for relaxed entertaining.

After

We visited the storage unit and exchanged the couch, coffee table and rug for a warm tangerine couch, armless chair, vibrant rug and round ottomans/seats. We moved the TV, flipped the couch and angled the chairs. Now we have a comfortable living room, for both quiet evenings and entertaining.
